He is a Gold medalist in bachelor as well as in his Master’s degree. He has completed M.Phil and Ph.D.
He is a President Awardee in the year 2001 in appreciation for Specially Distinguished Record of Service, the only officer to achieve this rare recognition, since he has been awarded in the 11th year because its normally given with a minimum of 15 years of service.
He handled critical and crucial assignment in Customs, Central Excise & VAT, held key positions in Imports, Export, Anti-Smuggling etc. He has considerable expertise in functioning of 100% EOU, SEZ units and STP parks.
He was conferred the award for Excellence in public service during the year 2018, by Deccan Chamber of Commerce, Pune.
Worked as Member of the IGST Committee as part of the exercise evolved in evolution of GST.
On specific request by Government of Andhra Pradesh, he worked in Commercial Tax Department during the period from 2007-2011 in implementing VAT Act and to head enforcement wing. He identified a major Scam on Bogus Invoice to the tune of Rs.1310 Crores.
He also has varied experience in Economic Intelligence and Investigations. Almost most of his career he has worked in Anti -Evasion/Anti-Smuggling and in specific seizure and recovery of foreign currency, Gold, contraband goods worth several crores.

Shri. G.V. Krishna Rao, I.R.S, an officer of 1987 batch has assumed charge as Chief Commissioner of CGST & Central Excise, Tamil Nadu & Puducherry zone, on 19th March 2020
He is a Science Graduate from Andhra University, and has done his MBA and LL. B from Osmania University. He has also completed his CAIIB. Besides he also holds a PG Diploma in Cyber Law and Intellectual Property Rights (IPR) and M.A(Journalism) and M.A (Astrology).
He has served in various stations such as Vijayawada, Guntur, Chennai, Hyderabad, Vadodara, Mysore and Guwahati in Customs & Central Excise department. As Commissioner and Principal Commissioner, at Mysore, he has been instrumental in successful implementation of GST during 2017.His last posting was in Guwahati as Chief Commissioner GST & Customs for the Seven North Eastern States.
During the period from June 1998 to June 2005, he has served in various capacities in Central Excise & Customs department at Chennai and familiar with the issues of this region.
The priorities in the present assignment are Taxpayer services and Revenue augmentation in TN & Puducherry zone besides Staff welfare.

Shri Vasa Seshagiri Rao, having received his formal education in Commerce, his first choice of job was in the Banking Sector, He joined the Andhra Bank as a Probationary Officer and after serving the Bank for 5 years, he joined the department as IRS Officer in the year 1987. Thereafter he went on to do his post-graduation in Law from the Madras University
From his first posting as an Assistant Commissioner in Bareiiy he worked all over the country in various capacities. His stint in Custom House, Chennai where many of us have seen him in close quarters, wherein he brought about certain revolutionary changes in the system, was remarkable.
During his stint as Additional Director General at DRI, Eastern Zone, having vast jurisdiction spread over 9 states he was instrumental in registering several smuggling cases and soon the drug menace in the area was a thing of the past
Later as Commissioner Customs, Pune, he was in-charge of the very sensitive Konkan Coast. Besides establishing a system of strict vigil he was instrumental in promoting, many minor ports in the region.
As Principal Additional Director General in charge of National Academy of Customs, Indirect Taxes and Narcotics, Chennai, Sir, has been instrumental in training more than 10,000 Officers in GST and two batches of IRS Probationers in Hyderabad.

Smt. Sungita Sharma, I.R.S., Special Secretary & Member (Admn) Central Board of Indirect Taxes & Customs (CBIC), is an officer from 1986 batch of the Indian Revenue Service (Indirect Taxes & Customs).
In a career spanning 36 plus years, she had held various positions VIZ: Principal Chief Commissioner of Delhi CGST Zone; Chief Commissioner of Mumbai CGST Zone with additional charge of Mumbai Customs Zone-III; CGST Chennai and Pune Customs & CGST Zones for short durations; Principal ADG, WZU, DGoV Mumbai; Principal Commissioner Central Excise & Service Tax Commissionerate, Commissioner Pune-III Central Excise & Service Tax Commissionerate etc.
In 2015 she had chaired the Committee assigned by CBEC to work out the risk parameters for return scrutiny in Service Tax for ACES.
When GST was rolled out in 2017, she was nominated by the GST Council Secretariat to co-chair the Sectoral Working Group on GST for “Travel and Tourism”.
Her junior and middle-level management experience in the field relates to tax collection and enforcement work in Ghaziabad, Delhi and Haryana.
She had worked as a Director in CBIC on the department’s tax-related litigation in the Supreme Court; and on deputation under the Central Staffing Scheme from 2006-2012, as Director with the Ministry of Defence.
She had worked on Defence Industry Promotion issues including FDI and defence industry policy, private sector participation in defence production, defence exhibitions such as the high-profile air exposition, Aero India, and offset credit banking.
For her distinguished record of service, on the occasion of Republic Day 2006, she was honoured with the Prestigious Presidential Award in Appreciation her meritorious service.

Before joining the Inidan Revenue Service, he worked for the SAIL during 1980 to 1983.
During his career in IRS, he has worked in various
capacities in the Customs, Central Excise and Service Tax Departments at Kolkata, Mumbai and Chennai.
He was Commissioner (Appeals) at Hyderabad,
Commissioner of Central Excise and Service Tax at Salem and Guntur during 2004 to 2014.
Mr.Rao has specialised in Anti-evasion and Anti Smuggling work and was instrumental in unearthing hundreds of crore of Rupees of tax evasion.
As an able administrator and a team player Mr.Rao has shown keen interest in Taxpayers services, staff welfare measures and always committed
to the Organizational objectives.
He has participated in several training programmes organised in Inida & Abroad including IIM Ahmadabad,
